IT Support Team Lead

Location: Guelph, Ontario

About the IT Team:

The GM BluePlan Engineering IT team is growing in order to continue to provide quality IT support to GM BluePlan's growing team of Engineers and Technicians. The team currently supports more than 200 staff in seven office locations and an increasingly mobile workforce. GM BluePlan's dynamic and fast paced environment means that all IT team members play a vital role in the success of the business and its staff.

 

The IT team is dedicated to incremental continuous improvement by (re)defining processes and automating tasks. This allows us to streamline our workflow and work in a more efficient manner, while treating the team members we support as people, not "users".

 

The Role:

Reporting to the IT Manager, the IT Support Team Lead will be working along side the IT support team and will be responsible for taking the lead on day to day IT Support desk activities.

 

Your Team Lead Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring, trend analysis and reporting of staff feedback, service requests and incidents.
  • Ensuring accurate IT asset management.
  • Development of team knowledge base and GMBP staff process manuals.
  • Coordinating computer upgrades and new hire setups.
  • Project planning for projects that affect staff computers, E.g. Office upgrades, Windows 10 feature pack installs, software migrations.

 

Your Support Desk Responsibilities:

  • Computer and peripheral (printer, mobile phones, etc.) troubleshooting and deployment; both hardware and software aspects. The team supports approximately 375 endpoint devices.
  • Participate in front line IT support via email, phone, Skype, and face-to-face. Everyone we support has a preferred method of communication and we encourage everyone to interact with IT in the medium in which they feel most comfortable.
  • Working on IT support tickets ranging from assistance with standard IT equipment, such as printers, to more complex issues related to industry specific software (i.e. Autodesk and Innovyze products), as well as non-industry specific products such as Microsoft Office.
  • Liaising with vendors to resolve support issues when necessary.

 

Your Qualifications:

  • Possess a valid G driver's license with a vehicle as occasional travel to other office locations will be required.
  • Possess a post-secondary education in the IT field with a demonstrated strong passion for continued learning.
  • Minimum three years previous work experience in an IT support or analyst role in a corporate setting is required.
  • Demonstrated team lead skills including effective communication, organization, and prioritization.
  • Exposure to the ITIL framework.
  • Possess a strong technical foundation that includes extensive knowledge of A+, Network+ (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, etc.), Windows 7 through 10, and endpoint protection.

  • You have the aptitude and passion to learn more and take on bigger IT projects as they arise. Our small but growing IT team will provide you with the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of technologies including virtualization, cloud, networking, SQL and many others.
  • You work well unsupervised and can solve problems on your own, but know when to step back and ask for help.
  • You understand that IT involves ensuring there is minimal impact to the daily work environment of the GM BluePlan team. Occasional after hours and weekend work may be required at short notice.
  • You have a passion for working with people and helping them, and an understanding as to how your role in the IT team has an impact on the day to day delivery of GM BluePlan's services to its clients. The IT team supports customized IT solutions and configurations for each GM BluePlan team member to ensure individuals have the autonomy to interact with technology in a way that works best for them. We have standards that are loose; there are no cookie-cutter IT setups at GM BluePlan.
  • A non-cookie-cutter approach means there is a lot to remember. Therefore, you are organized, pay close attention to details, and committed to increasing the efficiency of the IT team and yourself.
  • You strive to learn as much as possible about the technology your colleagues interface with on a daily basis, not just because technology is cool but because you understand the impact that technology has on each individual team member's work.
